The Brazilian Contingent of UNEF - The Southern sector or the Gaza Strip is guarded by the Brazilian contingent of the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF), which also patrols the Khan Yunis sector of the Armistice Demarcation Line to the north, with the help of members of the Indian contingent of UNEF. Brazilian troops also help to guard the UNEF Maintenance Area in Rafah and the UNEF Supply Depot in Port Said. 380 Brazilian Volunteers Welcomed by UNEF Commander
The Commander of the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF), Lt. Gen. E.L.M. Burns, flew from Gaza to Port Said today to welcome some 380 Brazilian soldiers who arrived by sea from Rio de Janeiro to join UNEF. The new arrivals, all of whom volunteered for service with UNEF, will bring to 642 the number of Brazilian soldiers serving in the Force. - Here, shortly after his arrival, Lt. The new arrivals, all of whom volunteered for service with UNEF, will bring to 642 the number of Brazilian soldiers serving in the Force. - Here, Lt. Gen. Burns (l., foreground), H.E. 280 Brazilian Soldiers of UNEF Return Home from Gaza Strip Lt. General E.L.M. Burns, Commander of the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF), today bade farewell to some 280 Brazilian soldiers who are sailing for home from Port Said tomorrow after serving with UNEF in Gaza. Some 400 soldiers were on the parade ground, including a guard of honor drawn from the 380 troops of the new Brazilian contingent which arrived 19 March.

Canadian Contingent of UNEF Celebrates Dominion Day - The Canadian Contingent with the United Nations Emergency Force (UNEF) today celebrated their Dominion Day at the UNEF Maintenance Area. The main ceremony of the Day took place at the Parade Square where UNEF Commander, Lt. General E.L.M. Burns, inspected a 54-man Guard of Honor drawn from all units of the Contingent, and later presented them with the UNEF Medal. - At the conclusion of the ceremonies on the parade square, four white-painted UN aircraft units fly in formation over the reviewing stand in a salute to UNEF Commander Burns (white uniform, back to camera). New UNEF Chief of Logistics Arrives at El Arish - Among a number of recent arrivals at El Arish airfield were UN Personnel, Canadian Air Force replacements, and a new UNEF Chief of Logistics, Lt. Colonel W. M. Arnold who is being greeted by the outgoing Chief of Logistics, Lt. Colonel M. W. Lawrence. Both are Canadians. The Indian pipe band played a welcome for the newcomers.
